The clock is ticking...

Hello again

I have added another blog of note to my "Where now?" coloumn: "The Perorations of Lady Bracknell" Here are a selection of my favourite posts from this blogger:

One in Seven

As some day it may happen ...

Yes, yes, I know. They're all disablity-related and somewhat serious, and I promised to lighten up. So, let me lead along the path taken by my thoughts (and mouse) after browsing through the above. I, of course, had Gilbert & Sullivan on the brain - it started with the Mikado but quickly developed off-shoots into "Pirates", "Pinafore" and "Iolanthe" (isn't it a shame I didn't know anything from "Patience"? It would have rounded off that sentence in such an alliterative style.)

Now, when I get a tune on the brain, I sing it to myself and normally get to a place where I can't remember the words. So, I turn to the internet and see if I can't find them. If I can't look them up, then I try and sing something else, or else I make up my own words. Making up my own words is fun - sometimes I do it even when I'm at home and could look up the right lyrics.

Searching for "Gilbert & Sullivan" I found a collection of the libretti for their 14 operettas. Enjoy the words of the great WSG - although you won't find AS's music there. You might find it here - I haven't fully explored this site yet but it looks good.

If it's music you're after, try Jango. It is like an online radio station, but you choose the playlist. Everytime a song plays, you can say if you don't like it (it won't play again), like it (it will play again) or love it (it will play again often). You can select your favourite artists, and you will hear them as well as others from similar genres. I have only been listening and refining my "station" for a few days but I have really enjoyed hearing old favourites mixed in with pieces I've never heard before.

It has been providing the soundtrack for my writing, reading and researching. It has even played during my brief periods of housework. Housework. Bother. So much for trying to be up-beat. If I try to avoid the washing up, I run smack into the ironing. And as for the paperwork ... I think that 'AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!' may be the word I'm looking for there.

Maybe that's one reason why I like adventure stories, science-fiction and fantasy - they very rarely feature washing up.
